Stargate's resident genius, looking satisfactorily butch. I saw a Sam in another store, same figure/variant, but her irises and mouth paint applications were just a tiny fraction off-centre, and just by chance it gave her a very Sam-like look, as if Jack had just said something goofy, and she's looking sideways and trying not to smile too obviously - it really was strikingly like her, somehow. Unfortunately their prices were $5 more than the other place in town, and I'm poor, so I had to settle for this one.
Not that that's a bad thing at all, the face is quite a good likeness regardless - perhaps a little older and sterner than the Sam we're used to, but you can always pretend this is Sam a couple of years after the show (and she's in charge of SG-1, like she should've been from s9 onwards - not that I dislike Mitchell, I'm just saying...). The sculpt is good all over, very faithful to the uniforms seen on the show, and the removable vest sits quite snugly over her - though whether that'd continue to be the case after it'd been taken off and put on again a few times, who knows. I particularly like the arm articulation - the folds of her sleeve cleverly don't make it obvious when the bicep cut is turned out of its 'neutral' position, and with ball shoulders, hinged elbows and cut wrists she can do a lot with her arms. The balljoint neck backs that up nicely. Below the waist she's a bit less mobile - cut waist, T-hips, cut thighs, hinges knees, but there's really not a lot you can do with any of that besides have her stand upright, and turn at the waist a bit. The hips are quite limited, moving not very far forward, and not at all back - on the plus side, limiting the legs' backward motion means there's no articulation interfering with the look of her very shapely ass. I'm not kidding, so far as having a hot backside in combat pants, this figure is pretty much the perfect ten.
She comes with a bunch of stuff - a piece of the stargate (not much use to me, as I'm not buying the guys in the lines), a handgun which comes elastic-banded into her right hand, but fits snugly and fairly realistically into either hand without the band, a big honkin' cannon of a rifle which again fits into either hand, and which with a little work she can hold in both hands (not quite perfectly, but still pretty good), plus a zat, a radio, and... some other thing, with according to a review I read should be a GDO, except it doesn't look like I remember them looking. So far as I recall the GDOs (the gizmos that send a coded signal through the gate so the SGC can open the iris and let their people through) were flat thingies kind of like an antenna-less radio, or a black cellphone, which strapped to the forearm. The accessory Sam has doesn't look like that - in fact, aside from a few anomalous bumps on the sides, it looks not so much like SGC technology as it does something Sam brought along from home to keep her company on long solo missions:
Maybe I'm just misremembering the design - after ten seasons, I admit my attention did start to waver at times.
Oh, one last thing I want to draw attention to: on her left hand, her forefinger is partially separate from the other fingers, not for its whole length, but just enough that - with some careful work - it can sit over the trigger of a weapon, rather then around the butt with the other fingers as is usually the case with action figures holding guns. I don't know if that's just happy coincidence, or if it was designed that way - I couldn't quite manage it with her right hand - but either way, it's a very pleasing detail.
