Praxagora was the last of her kind, and with her untimely death at the hands of Ultron, the Ataraxians are now extinct. These living machines dwelled in the Negative Zone, a peaceful race seeking harmony with all living things. Annihilus, who was gathering his forces to launch the Annihilation War, destroyed Ataraxia and every one of its inhabitants, except Praxagora who was placed on a prison planetoid, where she endured years of torture and experimentation at the hands of Hawal, the prison's sadistic scientist overseer. She formed a brother/sister-like bond with a fellow inmate, Preak, and his protection allowed her to survive long enough to learn how to fend for herself in the violent prison.

When the Super-Skrull Kl'rt attacked the prison Praxagora and her fellow inmates took the opportunity to seek revenge on Hawal, but Kl'rt fought them off, needing Hawal alive (for the moment) to learn how to destroy his Harvester of Sorrows superweapon, which was destroying Skrull worlds. Thus Praxagora and Kl'rt first met in battle, with Prax unleashing the furious energy of her internal fusion core as a weapon, which Kl'rt, luckily, was able to survive due to his energy-absorbing power. Despite getting off on the wrong foot, when she learned of Kl'rt's plan, Praxagora became his most loyal follower, and his lieutenant in the rag-tag army he assembled to help destroy the Harvester. When their initial plan failed (and Preak was killed in the ensuing struggle) she was ready to sacrifice herself to destroy the Harvester by detonating her fusion core inside it, but Kl'rt absorbed her power, letting her escape while he took her place and destroyed the weapon with himself still aboard.

Praxagora recovered Kl'rt's body and returned it to the Skrull forces, so that his heroism would not be forgotten. She then became embroiled in the Annihilation War, during which Kl'rt's body revived itself, and the pair went on to fight side by side until the defeat of Annihilus. They remained together during the Phalanx conquest of Kree space, initially being assimilated by the Phalanx as 'Select', and upon being freed by Wraith joining his band of rebels. She and Kl'rt were part of Ronan the Accuser's plan to destroy the Kree homeworld in order to end its peoples' suffering as Phalanx slaves, a plan which the Phalanx leader Ultron derailed at the last minute. At the same time Ultron caused Praxagora's fusion core to overload in an effort to destroy her group - her allies, including Kl'rt, were able to survive, but Prax was destroyed.

Prax featured most heavily in the Super-Skrull miniseries preceeding the first Annihilation, narrating an issue which focused on her involvement with Kl'rt's band of fighters and their effort to build a weapon to destroy the Harvester. Once she learned of Kl'rt's resolve to defeat the Harvester and save his son's world, she began to greatly admire him, and as they worked together that became love. Kl'rt did not return her feelings, and even rejected her violently when she made advances towards him, but instead of turning to anger at being spurned, Prax recognised that his rejection stemmed from his single-minded focus on his goal, and respected and loved him more because of it. When she demonstrated her willingness to continue to serve him, regardless of his refusal to love her, Kl'rt began to truly respect her in kind, a respect which grew once she had proven herself to him in battle. After his death and resurrection Kl'rt seemed quite content to have Prax by his side, and though he would occasionally scorn her 'female ways' when she displayed warmth towards him, he did so in an almost affectionate manner, and demonstrated genuine friendship towards her.

Praxagora made her debut in Annihilation: Super-Skrull, appeared in Annihilation and Annihilation Conquest: Wraith, and finally in Annihilation Conquest, becoming Ultron's final victim before his defeat in the last issue.
